Marine Protected Areas (MPA’s) are highly important assets for restoring the local maritime economy and the health of our oceans. They also provide a plethora of recreational opportunities from snorkeling and SCUBA diving to swimming, kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Surfing. MPA’s are a nursery for juvenile and adolescent species of fish, and are a way of extending the State Parks system to the oceans. These areas help replenish fish populations to help fishermen revitalize their livelihood, and create a stunning underwater habitat for people to explore and appreciate. Just like our homes and yards provide refuge for us, Marine Protected Areas provide sanctuary for the creatures of the sea.
